High school may seem overwhelming at times. This course is designed to help students with issues that the high school experience presents and develop life-long coping skills. Students will have the opportunity to enhance their skills in communication, cooking, and learn how to participate in family life.

​Food and Nutrition
None
No other grade 10 course allows you to cook once a week, plan healthy meals, and learn the meaning behind food choices. This course does all of that and more!

​Understanding Fashion
None
Interested in sustainable fashion and learning basic sewing skills? This course introduces you to the changing fashion industry and gives you the opportunity to create and maintain your clothing. Basic materials will be provided but students may choose to enhance their supplies and projects for a cost of $30-$40.

​Raising Healthy Children
None
​Planning on having children someday? This course takes you through the experiences of dating, marriage, and parenting from pregnancy to the toddler years. Students who take this course will participate in the “Baby Think It Over” simulation.

​Introduction to Anthropology, Psychology, Sociology​

This course introduces students to the theories, methodologies and issues related to Anthropology, Psychology, and Sociology. Students will develop an understanding of the approaches and research methods used by social scientists. They will be given opportunities to apply their knowledge of the theories by conducting social science experiments, presenting a seminar and through a variety of writing tasks. CIS​

​This course introduces students to theories, questions, and issues related to anthropology, psychology, and sociology. Students learn about approaches and research methods used by social scientists. They will be given opportunities to apply theories from a variety of perspectives, to conduct social science research, and to become familiar with current issues within the three disciplines. CIS​

HSP3UW is an IB course (fees apply). This course aims to develop an awareness of how research findings can be applied to better understand human behaviour and how ethical practices are upheld in psychological inquiry. CIS

U/M/C course
This course examines the relationships between food, energy balance, and nutritional status; the role of nutrition in health and disease while evaluating trends in nutrition. Students will learn about healthy eating, expand their repertoire of food preparation techniques and develop their research skills.

​Human Development Throughout the Lifespan
U/M/C course
This course offers a multidisciplinary approach to the study of human development throughout the life cycle. You will learn about a range of theories from the perspectives of developmental psychology, sociology and anthropology. You will examine threats to healthy development as well as protective factors that promote resilience. Additionally, you will learn how early brain development is linked to lifelong learning, health, and well-being. This a great course if you are considering careers in social work, teaching, youth work, early childhood education, and medicine.

​Families in Canada
U/M course
If you belong to a family this course is for you! This course researches the trends, history, diversity and challenges of today’s families. From a micro level sociological perspective, you will learn about issues across the life cycle – from leaving home to relationships to aging. Excellent preparation for post-secondary study in psychology, social work, teaching, family law and medicine and any people-related occupation.

​Challenge & Change in Society
U/M course
This course is a continuation of HSP3UI as it expands on Anthropological, Psychological and Sociological theories, perspectives, and methodologies required to investigate and to explain shifts in knowledge, attitudes, beliefs, and behaviour and their impact on Canadian society. Students will critically analyze how and why cultural, social, and behavioural patterns change over time, explore challenges such as technological change, deviance, and global inequalities. Students will be completing a case study, an investigation and a primary research essay. CIS

IB Psychology
HSP3UW
HSB4UW is an IB course (fees apply) and it is a continuation of HSP3UW. Students will continue to study biological, cognitive and sociocultural approaches to the discipline with an emphasis on abnormal and developmental psychology. Research methods will also be emphasized in the production of an experimental investigation.
